So Clary seemed like she was becoming more likable as the second book went on - OH HOW WRONG I WAS! D: Never has a character in a book made me so frustrated with their selfishness, stupidity, and general hate-making capabilities. I hated all my housemates the whole day just because they are humans and they share that human-esque quality with Clary. LUCKILY, there was a lot going on, and I’d read the first two books, so I couldn’t quit now. Obviously I still liked the general story, but the main character really needs to be killed off - I have no idea how she wins Best Heroine awards, her only redeeming quality is that she has super angel powers of creation, which isn’t even something she had a say in having. Read the book, and I’m sure someone would have to agree with me. YES, EVENTUALLY, she does get better, but I don’t know if she can really come back from the amount of loathing I felt for her at the beginning.

Another horrific occurrence is that I found myself liking Jace less. Now that his life is in tatters, he barely comes out with his witty quips, and mainly self-harms and self-pities himself. It’s a bit of a downer. There’s more focus on Simon, Alec and Magnus, though, which I feel makes up for the lack of decent MAINmain characters.

The climax of the second book ends in Clary using her new-found rune creating powers to blow up Valentine’s ship. All the twists and mysteries are still up in the air, though. City of Glass is predominantly set in the shadowhunter city of Alicante, where, unbeknownst to the merry little community, a demon war may or may not be about to break out. The incestual tendencies, romance, and humour are still continued, thankfully.

So, if you read all that, I’ve probably completely turned you off the series. But just take a moment to think about the fact that I still rated it 4/5. Just proves the books are good despite all I have to say hahaa.

I spose I shouldn’t really be advertising other people’s reviews, but this one was so hilariously accurate, I couldn’t resist.

Please don’t read this if you haven’t read the first book! I dunno how much I will spoil, but I know I hate it when I hear absolutely anything that may have been a secret. If you decide not to listen to me, at least read my review of the first book, so this one makes more sense.

In the last book, Clary’s mother, Jocelyn was kidnapped by Valentine, and remains in a magic-induced coma, we find out about The Circle and Valentine’s plans of genocide and world domination (haha), Clary learns some shocking truths about herself and her *gasp* brother, and basically, we’ve barely scraped the top of this drama.

Somebody (I’ve no idea who…) has begun killing downworlder children and draining their blood, Jace has some unfortunate complications with his living in the Institute, and Clary has some nasty-incestual thoughts.

There isn’t much to say about this book that I haven’t already said about the first, Jace and Simon are fun, and whatever is going down between Alec and Magnus is totally ship-worthy (they are my OTP), the writing quality is the same - slightly immature maybe, but the hilarity of the dialogue compensates - but by the time you’ve finished the first book, you’re too absorbed in the drama to be as critical as you first were* (as I first was).

OH and then Clary has to go and become so super fucking special which just makes me dislike her more. Why does she deserve that!? Why can’t Isabelle be the main character with crazy powers? I like Isabelle. I also like Simon. And then I’m forced to like Clary more because Yayyy! She saved the dayyyy…

I don’t see the point of writing much anyway, if you weren’t intrigued by my first review, there’s no point starting with the second book. And I’m too terrified to go looking for pretty fanart after searching “TMI” *shudders*

I’m sorry I made such a half-arsed attempt at first. I’m hardcore studying for uni (which is unheard of for me), so if I’m not studying, I have to be doing nothing, because it’s wasting time if I do something that I might possibly enjoy.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (Book One) by Cassandra Clare.

Young Adult Urban Fantasy (Wikipedia said so.) Rating: 4/5

Everyone just bear in mind that this is the first book I’ve done. There will be many different genres, but it just so happens that I’m re-reading this series at the moment, so they are the freshest in my brain.

Clary, our heroine, thinks she is just a regular teenager living in New York, until she discovers a dark underworld that no mere mortals know about *GASP* She stumbles upon three gorgeous, sexy, badass teens whilst they are killing a demon. Jace and his foster brother and sister, Alec and Isabelle, are Shadowhunters - a race of human/angel hybrids (sort of) whose purpose is to rid the world of the demons that are infesting it. The bad guy is Valentine, he kidnaps Clary’s mother, and that’s about all I’m going to say on the matter. Shit gets hectic/romantic/hilarious/tragic.

It’s a surprisingly good read. The first time, I was a little put off by how immature the writing seemed, but the witty dialogue and interesting storyline kinda made up for it. The second time I read it, I had no qualms (my brain is deteriorating perhaps?)

The main character, Clary, is an immature bitch (nowhere near as bad as in the third book, though) but because the other characters liked her, I found myself disliking her less. Jace *EEE* is great. I can understand the fangirling - he’s sexy, cool, witty, unnaturally talented and tortured - the perfect man. My favourite part of the book (possibly even the whole series) is the scene where Simon, Clary’s best friend, interrupts them (from what? :O) and Jace makes a joke about them not all being able to fit in the bed together. The sad part is, that the author is female, so it’s really her making up all the witty/deep lines the male characters say that make us fall in love with them. Boys like that don’t actually exist D:

I’m one of those people who only wants to read about/watch beautiful people (yes, I know, how shallow of me!) I can’t think of a single ugly (relatively main) character in the book, which should definitely make for a very aesthetically pleasing movie >:)

I’d recommend it if you like action and romance (sexual tension). And if you’re like me, and begin to lose interest because of the simplicity of the writing, just stick with it and you’ll soon get caught up in the plot, and hardly notice the small faults.

And my favourite TMI blog is badlydrawnmortaldevices. BEWARE OF SPOILERS, though. This series is kinda based around all the twists and “OMG! I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT WOULD HAPPEN!” moments.

Also, the movie is currently in the process of being made. The casting so far is alright, but I wouldn’t be able to stand it if they cast Nicholas Hoult as Alec. That’s my one casting opinion haha. For all of you who are pickier than me with actors, here is a 31 Day TMI/TID Dreamcast Challenge.
